brainstorming

Do any of you work with tools such as mindmapping, freewriting, reflective writing, word lists, etc.. with your students or in your own work? Feel free to share any thoughts on these brainstorming techniques or any others that you think work well for visual learners.

The thesis development course taught by Anne West -- "Mapping the Intelligence of Our Work -- at RISD was a transformative experience for me. I know that her techniques have influenced many educators in how they get thier undergraduate and graduate design students to write about thier process and work.

'Neurobics' a new word and activity developed by Dr. Jim Watson to help students as he says, "get into the world, participate, and enjoy." He incorporates this activity into some of the beginning level design courses. It has helped many students with brainstorming and becoming better thinkers.

I perform freewriting, reflective writing, and word lists in my own work, and require my students to perform some of those tasks in their own work.
